How to Serve
Would you like to work on a future Walk to Emmaus? Listed below are several opportunities to serve behind-the-scenes. Look them over and if any of them strike your fancy just contact the board representative (http://www.sandhillsemmaus.net/board.php) responsible for that area. A current listing of the board members and their areas of responsibility can be found in the navigation bar to the left. Please note that some of the behind-the-scenes servants are asked to stay on site during the Walk and to pay their own room and board for the weekend. The friendships, devotion times, cooperation and charity you will enjoy are free!
Set-Up/Tear-Down – Servants are needed on Wednesday and/or Thursday before the Walk to set up the Dining Hall, Conference Room, and Chapel; On Sunday everything must be taken down, cleaned up, and packed away again.
Send-Off and Closing – Servants are needed to vacuum, empty trash cans, and perform other general housekeeping tasks at Raeford UMC after Send-Off and Closing.
Luggage – Help is needed to tag, load and deliver luggage to Camp Rockfish on Thursday night at Send-Off, and again on Sunday afternoon to collect the luggage from Camp Rockfish and deliver it back to Raeford.
Transportation – Drivers and vans/busses are needed to shuttle the Pilgrims from Send-Off to Camp Rockfish on Thursday, to Candelight and back on Saturday night, and from Rockfish to Raeford for closing on Sunday.
Candlelight – Volunteers are needed to distribute and collect candles, and to clean up the church after Candlelight service.
Babysitters – are needed for each monthly gathering.
Volunteers for the following positions are asked to stay at Camp Rockfish for the weekend:
Agape – Help is needed collecting, sorting, counting, and distributing Table Agape and Letters.
Break Tables – Servants are responsible for setting-up and decorating the break tables, and taking them down and cleaning up after breaks.
Dining Room – Four to six servants are needed each walk to set up tables, decorate, serve food and drinks, and perform housekeeping in the dining room.
Altars – A servant is needed to set up the various altars used in the Chapel throughout the weekend and to take the Worship Box, elements, and carpets to Send-Off, Candlelight, and Closing.
Prayer Chapel – Two servants are needed to serve in the PrayerChapel by praying for each speaker before, during, and after their talk. Prayer Chapel volunteers are also required to attend Team Formation, which takes place over three different weekends leading up to the Walk. This is a big commitment but it is an extremely blessed role to play on a Walk.
Supplies – A servant is needed to manage the distribution of supplies over the weekend and reload them onto the supply trailer on Sunday afternoon.
